Veleka Beach near Sinemorets - the place where the river meets the sea

Veleka beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is located to the north of the village of Sinemorets and is called Veleka after the river that flows into the sea at its end by means of an "liman". The beach line is between 500 meters and a kilometer long and up to a hundred meters wide. Every year the beach is different, because of the action of the river. When the river is full, part of the sand disappears and reappears in the spring. You could say that every year you come across a new and different beach.

How to get to Veleka beach?

Veleka Beach is located 83 km south of Burgas and 12 km from our border with Turkey. It is reached by traveling along the main road in the direction of Sozopol and following the signs to Primorsko, and then to Ahtopol and Sinemorets. To get to the beach there are 2 route options. One is on the dirt road to the beach parking lot itself. For it, you pass the bridge over the river Veleka, which is located between Ahtopol and Sinemorets, and just before the village you turn left. The road is quite bumpy, but if you drive carefully you won't have a problem. If you feel sorry for the car, park in Sinemorets and walk down to the beach. The path is steep, but the view is incredible.

Is this beach guarded?

There are no lifeguards on the beach by the time this story is written. Be careful when bathing there.

How big is the beach?

The beach is about a kilometer long, and its width varies every year. Don't worry - there are plenty of places, especially near the river mouth.

Are there restaurants/bars nearby?

Yes, there are several bars on the beach that offer refreshing drinks. (not sure about food)

Are there umbrellas and sunbeds?

Yes, there are umbrellas at the beginning of the beach and they are free. Unfortunately, however, there are not many of them and they get busy quite quickly. I recommend you bring an umbrella from home.

Can any sports be practiced?

Yeah! There is a windsurfing school and there you can try windsurfing, kayaking or SUP (paddleboarding), usually the river is preferred because of its calmer water.

At the beginning of the beach there are volleyball nets. If you like this sport, get the ball and gather company.
