Back in the centuries with the medieval fortress town of Cherven

Cherven is one of the most important church and cultural centers during the Second Bulgarian State. It is located on a rocky hill about 1 km long and up to 200 meters wide. The medieval city was divided into 2 parts - inner and outer city. The inner (Citadel) was surrounded by a high fortress wall and defensive towers (bastions). In its best years, the city was inhabited by over 10,000 people and was an important trading settlement in the region.

Assen Fortress - the protective wall of the pass between Thrace and the Aegean

Asen Fortress is located near Asenovgrad. It is located on the rocky hill Mogilata and it has a great view from the road Asenovgrad - Smolyan. The fortress, which rises at least 100 meters above the road, was a major strategic point above the pass connecting Plovdiv with the Aegean. With its almost vertical slopes, even overhanging the river, it is inaccessible on all three sides. The excellent location and natural protection of the area has been used since the time of the Thracians, who in the V century BC. build a fortification.

Rozhen Monastery "Nativity of Mary" - returned more beautiful than ever like a phoenix after the ashes

It is not clear when and who created the monastery. This is due to the great fire in the 17th century, which damaged a large part of the monastery complex and burned the monastery library. The oldest objects found here are ornaments and coins from the time of Michael VIII Palaeologus (1250-85).
The monastery was restored at the beginning of the XVIII century with the financial help of rich bulgarians from all over the country. Reconstruction began in 1715, and the church was fully completed in 1732.
